ZERO-WASTE LIFE: MENDING. You may have seen a previous post on how I repurposed and upcylcled my clothes. For this post, I am featuring an off-the-shoulder top that I picked out from my mom's closet and my husband's Zara long sleeved-shirt that had a hole.

Every time I visit my family in Canada, I always check out my mom's closet for clothes I can wear. I don't bring a lot of clothes during the trip because my gifts for them occupy most of the space in my luggage. Two summers ago, I borrowed a top that eventually landed in my closet. I wore it during the hot summers in Texas even though it was no longer in fashion. One day, I noticed that the serged edges were frayed. I didn't have time to sew it right then so I wore it even with ripped edges. It wasn't noticeable because it was at the back and my long hair covered it.

I repaired it by using a matching serger thread.

My husband usually hands over to me the clothes that he doesn't want to wear anymore. Then I sort and decide which ones are for donation. When I saw a linen-blend shirt with a hole on the label, I had an idea to remove the label and mend the hole by covering it with a patch. It required digging through my scraps of fabric to find the near perfect match. Personally, I think the patch is a fashion statement. My husband thinks otherwise- so he's not keeping it. His loss, my gain! I love the soft fabric and how it feels on the skin.
