I turned 50 years young last week. I prefer the word "young" in the hopes that God will prolong my life here on this earth. When I look back at life up until my early 40s, I am reminded of the severity and frequency of medical issues that have plagued my body. At one point, I thought I wouldn't live to see the day I turn 50.
The moment I woke up was filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude for celebrating this milestone in life. I was and still am deeply touched by God's grace and blessings in my life. I will always be grateful for family and friends, as well as genuine relationships as I grow in spiritual maturity. I pray that I can continue to share God's love with others.
My special day began with a daily quiet time. In the Daniel Plan devotional, the scripture of the day is from Daniel 6:10:
But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to God. This scripture led me to reflect on how often I thank God and how many times I turn to him first in times of need.
In the Purpose Driven Life Devotional Day 28, the scriptures are:
Everything on earth has its own time and its own season. Ecclesiastes 3:1 (CEV)
I am sure that God who began the good work within you will keep right on helping you grow in his grace until his task within you is finally finished on that day when Jesus Christ returns. Philippians 1:6 (LB)
We arrive at real maturity---that measure of development kwhich is meant by "the fullness of Christ".
Ephesians 4:13 (PH)
You have begun to live the new life, in which you are being made new and are becoming like the One who made you.
Colossians 3:10 (NCV)
Our lives gradually become brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.
2 Corinthians 3:18 (MSG)
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24 (NIV)
Don't try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed.
James 1:4 (MSG)
These things I plan won't happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single day! says the Lord. Habakkuk 2:3 (LB)
God who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion. Philippians 1:6 (NIV)
As I reflect on the next chapter and new season in my life, these scriptures will serve as reminders of God's goodness and promises. May you all find hope in whatever season you're in!
