I was overweight for 23 years. On top of it, I was hospitalized once or twice a year for asthma. The oral steroids made me crave for food during my waking hours. I gave in to those cravings and felt sluggish throughout the day. The excess weight took a toll on my energy level.
My attempts to lose weight on my own willpower didn't work. It only worked when I relied on God's power. I decided to change my diet and start walking on the treadmill. I started with eliminating processed foods and walking 10 minutes on the treadmill everyday. My resistance gradually increased and progressed to walking more than 3 miles for an hour.
The journey was not easy. Most days I felt I couldn't do it. What inspired me to keep going during those days were: my Daniel Plan Devotional, 2 Timothy 1:7, and the song by Lincoln Brewster, "There is power".
Nowadays, I strive to maintain my normal weight. I read my Daniel Plan Devotional during my daily quiet time (upon waking up), listen to worship music or bible audio/video on the treadmill, and prepare nourishing meals.
It's a tremendous blessing to seek God with all our hearts. How replenishing it is when we make a practice of seeking him as part of our daily routine. Food For Thought, Daniel Plan Devotional, page 122.
