MONTREAL BAGELS. My husband made one of my favorite foods yesterday and it made me very happy. So happy that I forgot how many calories I ingested. He cooked and baked Montreal-style bagels.
Eating those bagels yesterday evoked memories when we used to go to Montreal. When my grandparents were alive, my husband and I would take them to Montreal casino. They enjoyed playing the slot machines. Even though we don't gamble, we took them to the casino so they can have fun and take a break from their daily routine. It brought us immense joy seeing them have a great time.
On our way back home from the casino, we would stop by St Viateur Bagel and fill up the trunk of the car with dozens of sesame bagels. We would store the bagels in the freezer right away so we could enjoy the "fresh from the oven" taste and have it last until our next trip.
It was truly a delight eating the bagels. I lost count on how many I ate😱 I appreciated my husband's hard work as he kneaded and shaped the bagels. I could taste the love and passion he poured into the process. Every bite led to another bite and eventually several bagels. It tasted like the real Montreal Bagels! The texture was on point. When it came out less sweet, we blamed it on the quality of the honey😊

Recipe from the New York Times.
