At the beginning of every year, I read a chapter daily from the book of Daniel, Psalms, and Proverbs. I read the book of Daniel for motivation to eat healthy and pray consistently; the book of Psalms for daily praise; and the book of Proverbs for wisdom and discipline. As I read these books, I highlight the verses that stir my soul. I am sharing these verses from Psalms, chapters 1-10.
Psalm 1:1-3 NLT
Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners, or join in with scoffers.
But they delight in doing everything the Lord wants;
day and night they think about his law.
They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season without fail.
Their leaves never wither and in all they do, they prosper.
Psalm 2: 11 NLT
Serve the Lord with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Psalm 3: 3-4
But you, O Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts my head high.
I cried out to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy mountain.
Psalm 4: 8 NLT
I will lie down in peace and sleep, for you alone , O Lord, will keep me safe.
Psalm 5:3 NLT
Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord
Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.
Psalm 6:2 NLT
Have compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak.
Heal me, Lord, for my body is in agony.
I am sick at heart. How long, O Lord, until you restore me?
Psalm 7:17 NLT
I will thank the Lord because he is just;
I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.
Psalm 8:3-9 NLT
When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers ---
the moon and the stars you have set in place ---
what are mortals that you should think of us, mere humans that you should care for us?
For you made us a little lower than God, and you crowned us with glory and honor.
You put us in charge of everything you made, giving us authority over all things ---
the sheep and the cattle and all the wild animals,
the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and everything that swims the ocean currents.
O Lord, our Lord, the majesty of your name fills the earth!
Psalm 9:1-2 NLT
I will thank you, Lord, with all my heart;
I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done.
I will be filled with joy because of you.
I will sing praises to your name, O Most High.
Psalm 10:18 NLT
You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed,
so people can no longer terrify them.
